Understanding the Advantages of Assembling Medical Product Kits for Your Treatment Facility

Posted on

Keeping your medical treatment facility fully stocked and ready with all the necessary supplies is a must for proper patient care. However, the majority of medical facility managers opt for individual or bulk supplies in an effort to save money and keep costs down. While medical product kitting can be slightly more costly initially, it is also one of the most efficient ways to stock your medical facility and can help you save money in the long run. Kitting involves pulling together necessary supplies into kits designed for certain treatment situations.

Here is a look at some of the advantages of stocking your facility with medical product kits instead of traditional bulk supplies.

Having product kits streamlines patient treatment.

In a normal treatment setting with supplies not kitted, your in-house treatment providers will have to gather supplies and have them ready in the treatment rooms as they are needed. If you have kitted supplies, getting a room ready for treatment will merely involve fetching a kit and placing it where it needs to be. This means less time spent gathering supplies, so a more efficient and streamlined treatment environment. Patient treatment times can go down because of this and your staff will be free to tend to other matters.

Having product kits avoids unnecessary waste during treatment procedures.

If you are doing a procedure in the treatment facility and gather all of the necessary supplies from bulk sources, there is a greater chance that you will take more than what you need. For example, if you are dressing a hand wound, you may be tempted to grab an entire roll of gauze when that much is actually not necessary.

Because treatment supplies cannot be used once they are taken from their sterile containers, this means you can see a lot of waste throughout just one day of service. With kits that have everything you need, including only an adequate amount of certain things, it is less likely that you will see a great deal of waste.

Having product kits allows you to react faster to certain situations.

In a medical setting, there is always a possibility of an emergency situation taking place that would require you to have access to a specific set of medical tools at a moment's notice. If your treatment facility s already stocked with product kits for specific situations, such as an open wound or bleeding artery, you will be able to react much faster to the situation.
